heart 2 heart challenges...sketch challenge

Today is my last post as a guest design team member for Heart 2 Heart Challenges.  I had so much fun playing along with the challenges this month and I am honored to have been asked to join these amazingly creative women.

This week the challenge is a sketch.  As soon as I saw it, my wheels started spinning and my card came together so easily.

Here is the sketch:

and here is what I came up with (originally):

I actually intended to send the card with a gift to a bride to be whose wedding shower I was invited to, but couldn't attend.  Unfortuneatly my puppy liked the card too and ate the button and the corner of the patterned paper off of the card before I could send it (and it was on my desk too!)  I was heart broken, mainly because I loved the card, but also because we were leaving on vacation the next morning and I knew I wouldn't have time to make another.  My sweet son looked at me and said "Mom, you always think of ways to fix things...I know you can fix this"  So, I did...

this is version 2 (post puppy attack):

and a close up of my band aid...I layered 2 big pinks, added a courdery button and trimed flush with the edge of the card...with some really good adhesive to keep it down, no one would ever suspect this card was once Sara's chew toy.

I am not too sure which version I like best!

{love gives us a fairytale} products: (all CTMH unless noted)
cardstock:  Olive
patterned paper:  Mayberry
stamps:  bracket - On This Day; sentiment by Unity Stamp Co.
flowers:  by prima (version 1); Big Pinks (version 2)

CTMH Product Spotlight...Inspirational Relay Race

Hello and happy middle of June to you!  Can you believe it is already the 15th of June?  Where oh where has the Spring (and the school year for that matter) gone?

I am so excited to be participating in this month's CTMH Product Spotlight.  This month we had some fun and put a little twist into the blog hop by doing an inspirational relay race.  The basic concept is easy...one person starts the hop with a layout, card or project and then passes it on to the next person in line who pulls their inspiration from the first piece and creates something new.  She then passes that project on to the next person who creates something that inspires them from the second project and so on...

I am 8th in the relay and had no clue what the original design looked like until the hop went live.  I worked off of what Jena created and sent me.  To get the full experience of this blog hop...make sure you go back and start with Nikka

So once again - here is what Jena created and sent to me:

and here is what I came up with:

I decided to run with the color combo and the butterflies.  I pulled the blues, browns, greens and pinks although in a different shade (and completely different paper) to create the layout and used the butterflies as accent pieces.  I love how I was able to just pull a few aspects from Jena's project and make something completely different.

Now hop on over to Vicki to see how my layout inspired her.  At the very end of the hop, you will be able to view a recap post of all the projects from beginning to end.

Friday with my Friends

Oh it has been so long since I have had the chance to play with my paper and stamps!  I have been itching to get into my craft room, but time and a long list of projects kept getting in the way.  I was able to find an excuse to clean clear off a space to create this week though.  Football and field hockey seasons are coming to an end this week for the kiddos.  I was in charge of taking up a collection for the field hockey coaches and figured what a perfect excuse to make a card...who wants a store bought one anyway.

So I whipped up this thank you card (twice!) to present with the gifts from the players:

The cute little birdie stamp is from the Unity October KOM, DP is Cosmo Cricket, CS and ink is Close to My Heart, and the design is based on Mojo Monday 162 (which I am linking to also).

Be sure to visit Unity's blog to check out all of the FWF blogs today (the list will be up by 9am CT).  Be sure to visit each one in order to find the hidden blinkie.  If you find it...leave a comment for your chance to win some Unity goodness...and while you are at it, I would love to hear from you too!

Growing in Unity Day 5 on FWF Friday

Hey there ~

I cannot believe today is the end of my GIU week.  I have had so much fun creating and sharing.  I couldn't think of a better way than Friends with Flair Friday to end the week.   But just because my GIU week is over, I do hope you will come visit me again!  I can't promise crafty inspiration every day...but I can promise a little bit of this...and a little bit of that with some crafty inspiration sprinkled in here and there.

I wanted to thank you all for the sweet comments you have left all week long on my blog...reading them has made me smile a little brighter each and every day.  I also wanted to thank you all for your comments yesterday...it is so true, experiences like that just restore your faith in all that is good.

That being said, today I have a little wickedness going on...but the fun kind!  When I was going through my stamps I put my finger on one of my very first Unity stamps (actually I think it was my first) and it is still by far one of my favorites.  I know it is only August...but I just had to play with this Halloween sentiment now (plus the paper just happened to be sitting on top of my desk)!  Fall is my favorite season and I love everything that falls within that time.

Thank you again for sharing my Growing in Unity week with me.  I hope I was able to spark a bit of inspiration.  Don't forget to leave a comment for your chance to win Unity stamps.  I will be selected a random winner on Sunday.  And...since today is FWF you will have even more chances to win Unity goodness.  Hop on over to the Unity Blog and be sure to visit each of the FWF participants.  Someone has the mystery blinkie....find it and leave a comment for your chance to win!  Don't ya just love Unity???

Happy crafting,

Tracy

Sketch is based on Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge #88 and I am linking up there as well.

A stranger's generosity and Growing in Unity Day 4

Today is day 4 of growing in Unity!  I have a card to share, but first a little story.  One that truly makes you step back and take a look at your life, be thankful for what you have, and give that little extra each and every day to be kind and loving to those around you.  This isn't a sad story...although I will tell you that when it happened to us, it made me cry.  I wasn't crying tears of sadness, but because of how this one stranger was so thoughtful, kind, selfless and how it touched my heart so very much.

Last night my family and I attended a Dine to Donate event at our local Applebee's to raise funds for the youth football program in town, that my son is a member of.  I figured the place would be mobbed (which it was) and that the wait would be long (which it was) and since Kelsey & I had hair appointments at 8:00 I asked Bob to go right from work and put our names in.  The kids and I were at football practice and planned on meeting him as soon as practice was let out.

There was already a wait when Bob arrived so he put our names on the list and sat down at the bar.  Now he was coming right from work so he was still in uniform.  He sat down next to another man and as guys do over a beer they started talking.  Not about anything in particular.  The gentleman asked him why he was in uniform (which he explained as I did above) and about his family.  No biggie.  In the meantime we arrived, our table was called and Bob ended his conversation with the man.

During dinner we were approached by a waitress (or could have been the manager, bartender...not sure) who handed Bob a gift card and told him it was from the gentleman at the bar.  He had already left and didn't want his name revealed, nor any thanks.  He just wanted to thank Bob for his service and their conversation and wanted our family to enjoy dinner on him (this is where I started crying...right there in a packed restaurant).   Let's just say that this man was very generous and his gift paid for our meal and drinks.  Since the woman that presented the gift card knew this gentleman personally, we did ask that she thank him profusely and to please make sure he knew how grateful we were for his kindness. We have gone several places with Bob in uniform before and this has never happened to us as a family (he had a similar experience in Wisconsin a few weeks ago on a military trip), not that I would ever expect it to.

I am still without words.  People in this world can be so mean, and this one man, with his act of kindness put many things in perspective for me and allowed me to teach my children a very valuable lesson in kindness and generosity.

I wish we could thank him, but since I don't really know how I could I will pay it forward at the right time.

In honor of his kindness and beautiful spirit, I created this card for GIU Day 4...enjoy!

Images are from Bevy of Butterflies and the design is from Mojo Monday (#153).  Don't forget to leave me some bloggy love for your chance to win some Unity goodness.  I will pick the winner on Sunday.

Please take the time today to go out and do something kind for someone,

Tracy

Growing in Unity Day 3...Unity Addicts Challenge

Wow!  Day #3 of GIU already!  I am having such a great time.  Today, I pulled a card out from the archives.  I have had such a great time creating but when I found out the Unity Addicts challenge was black & white with a pop of color I knew I already had the most perfect card for that!

I used one of the beautiful lamp shade images from Shine On! This is one of my favorite Unity sets for it's elegance and simplicity.  I just happened to have the perfect coordinating DP and my "pop" of color is a ribbon I salvaged from a chocolate Easter Bunny package this past Easter (I am thrifty like that!)

If you are just joining me today go back and check out my GIU posts for Monday and Tuesday and be sure to leave me some love for your chance to win some Unity goodness at the end of the week.  I will be posting Thursday and Friday also so come back to see what else I have to hopefully inspire you to go create!

Happy Crafting,

Tracy

Growing in Unity Day 2...Just in Time for Back to School

We are preparing to head back to school here very shortly.  The kids will start on Monday and I can't believe how this summer has flown by.  I love having my kiddos home with me every day, but I also crave the routines and schedules that Fall brings (even though ours is a bit hectic and crazy).  I have plenty of projects planned (starting with reclaiming my house!) to fill up my time while they are at school but until then I am soaking up every spare minute I can with my two loves.

Today is GIU Day #2 and I created a card appropriate for back to school.  There are so many uses...notes to the teacher, welcome to school (I hope you survive my child...), thank you for all you do...etc. etc. I actually think I might make a few of these to have on hand when the need arises.

I used the May 2009 KOM (journaling border design), Aug 2009 KOM (school house) and May 2010 KOM (letters). DP is October Afternoon Cherry Hill Collection, Cardstock, the little ruler & Ink is CTMH, button and ribbon is from my stash.

Don't forget to stop back again tomorrow for Day #3 and every day until Friday!  Leave me some love on each of my GIU posts and you will have the chance to win some Unity goodness all for yourself.  I will pull a random winner this weekend.  Don't forget to check out all of Unity's great products on the Unity website and all of the fun over on the Unity Blog!

happy crafting -

Growing in Unity Day 1

Woohoo! It is my great honor to host Growing in Unity this week!  A whole week to showcase Unity Stamp Co. on my little ole' blog and a chance for you to win some wonderful Unity of your very own.  All you need to do is leave a comment each day on my GIU posts and at the end of the week I will draw one lucky winner to receive some Unity goodness just for stopping by!

So who is Unity Stamp Co.?  They are this wonderful stamp company that I fell in love with almost 2 years ago.  Their stamps are unmounted red rubber and their kit of the month is a fabulous deal in itself!  But the people...the Unity peeps and online commmunity are what make this company shine.  I hope my little glimpse of Unity this week will make you fall in love too!  Hop on over to their website to check out their products and their blog to meet the Unity peeps.

Enough of my ramblings...here is my first GIU card for you.  The owls are from the June Kit of the Month and the sentiment is from the March Kit of the Month.

I love how this card came out...it is so fun!  But you know how the camera adds 10 pounds?  Well apparently it isn't very forgiving on marker lines either...LOL!  If anyone has tips on how to make sure your color blends without leaving lines, dots, swirls or other odd brush marks, as I have this issue with it, I would appreciate you sharing!

Don't forget to come back tomorrow, and the next day, and the next to check out some more Unity goodness and leave me some love for you chance to win some Unity at the end of the week!

happy crafting,
Tracy

sending all my FWF a little happy...

Hello and welcome to another Friday...Unity Stamp Co. style...with friends with flair!

I haven't had a chance to play with my stamps or paper lately (or even set foot in my craft room) so being able to participate this week really was a treat!  It got me back in the groove and i hope to be sharing more real soon (btw - I will be hosting GIU the week of Aug 23...so stop back then, I will be sure to have crafty posts...Unity style, every day!)

Today I have a card for you...honestly it was the first image I laid my hands on when I started thinking about what to share with you.  These little guys just make you want to whip up something cute.  I based the sketch on this great one from Mercy

how's it rollin' all my friends with flair?

ahhh!  I {heart} Fridays for so many reasons...but Unity's FWF has to be at the top of that list.  Not that I need an excuse to escape into my craft room, but I so look forward to the opportunity to HAVE to escape.  Although to be honest...it is so messy right now that I had to escape from it before I got lost under a pile of stamps, paper and embellishments...when will I ever learn to put things away when I am done with them?  (maybe when the kids do..lol!)

So today I have this fun retro card for you.  I love this little image from the May 2010 KOM...a little happy. But then again, I love pretty much any image in the KOMs...they are so fun!

I wasn't too sure where I wanted to go with the color scheme on the card.  I was looking for fun & retro...then inspiration jumped right out at me...check out my summer purse!  I had a friend that always joked I stole it from the set of The Dating Game!  how more retro & roller skates is that?

By now you must know the deal...but if not, here it is.  Roll on over to the Unity Blog and check out the list of participants in FWF today!  Be sure to check out everyone's fabulous projects.  One participant is hosting the hidden blinkie...find it and leave a comment on that blog for a chance to win some Unity rubba!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend.  I would love to hear from you before you roll on out of here!

back for another fwf friday!

It is time for another Friends with Flair Friday over at Unity.  I have come to love Fridays for more than just the end of the work week...it is also a day that 50 talented Unity customers (and a sprinkling of DT ladies) show off their love for Unity and all their fabulous stamps.

I just so happened to have a some cards all whipped up and ready to go for this week's showcase.  My niece recently graduated from college and her younger brother from high school, so I pulled out the stamps (I think they were already all over my desk) and created these two cards:

and here is a close up of the background stamp used on the yellow since it didn't show up well in the above pic:

I tend to use that little cloud journaling thingy alot!  I just love it.  The background stamp is from the June KOM and because I didn't seem to have any graduation stamps (really???) I had 2 packs of Jolee's in my stash and swiped the grad caps for the cards.  I based the card on this fabulous card by Dawn McVey.

Don't forget to pop on over to the Unity blog after 10am (CT) to see the full list of FWF blogs.  You will want to check out each and everyone of them for oodles of inspiration...but also to find out who has the blinkie.  You have a chance to win a stash of Unity rubba just for commenting on the blog with the blinkie...although I would love to hear from you too!

Thanks for stopping by,

Tracy

Bubbles of Fun...Unity Style

hey there ~

hope this post is finding you well, and enjoying the incredible weather we have been having (at least it has been beautiful in my little corner of the US). So Friday brings another installment of FWF over at Unity. This is the day when 50 Unity customers/DT members showcase Unity and you have a chance to win some fabulous Unity rubba just by checking out the blogs. You can check the list out on the Unity blog after 9am CT...be sure to visit each blog, as you never know who might have the hidden blinkie!

Today I have a layout for you. I was fortunate to get a few done at a crop I attended last weekend. I love how Unity has so many great images that can be used on layouts or cards and they just add the little extra something that the page really needs. I have always had a tough time with journaling...never really adding it until after, and therefore, never really completing a page because I don't often go back right away to get it done. How bad is it that I have albums full of pages that are missing the journaling...oops! I just love the journaling images Unity has...they make getting the page done right away easy and fun!

For this layout I used the journaling image found in the Aug 09 KOM Following my Heart.... I used the layout from Page Maps Sept 2009 and paper and chipboard images from a kit I purchased from my LSS when they were going out of business {insert frowny face}....and doing a one page layout (which I usually don't do) really gave me the sense of accomplishment and enjoyment in the page! I love how it came out, how everything pulled together and how it is done!

Thanks for stopping by...I would love to hear from you.

happy day

hey there ~
Today is Friday {yeah!}. Looking forward to a pretty busy weekend around here. Golf tournament in the morning, JT's birthday party in the afternoon and then hopefully some yard work..then church and a picnic on Sunday.
Since it is Friday that also means it is time once again for FWF with Unity {yeah again!} I was able to break out my April KOTM and play, I had such a hard time choosing which image I wanted to use but finally went with the strawberry. I used the SCS SC279 for my design and just love how the whole thing came together.
So, you know the deal. To view all of the talented ladies participating today head on over to the Unity Blog for the list. Make sure to visit each and every one to check out the artwork and look for the blinkie to win some fabulous Unity goodness!
Will be back tomorrow with another card and Sunday with blog candy deets!

Til then -

a little something to brighten your day...

hey there ~
Just a quick little post today to share a card I made last weekend. I actually created the cards to give with my Mother's Day gifts for my mom, gram and mother in law, but since there is no sentiment on the front...the possibilities are endless.
A little bit of activity coming up here on the blog (I do go in spurts don't I? lol). Tomorrow I will be back with Unity's FWF (so love doing this when I can) and Saturday morning (really early...like 2am) my CTMH Product Spotlight Blog Hop post for May will go live and....drum roll please....since I will be hitting 100 posts this weekend, I think it is time for a little bit of blog candy! I will post all the deets on Sunday...so check back often.

Have a crafty day

Some"bunny" {hearts} FWF!

hey there ~

I am so excited to be back with you all on Fridays with FWF. My craft room was a major disaster and nothing inspiring was coming from it for such a long time...nothing at all could come from it as I coudn't see the floor never mind the desk. So I kicked my bottom into gear and cleaned it and low & behold what do you think I found hiding under that mess? My creativity, inspiration and a whole lot of therapy! I have since created 2 layouts...so excited as I have been wanting to get back to scrapping for so long, and have a whole bunch more planned for the weekend.

So, with Easter being on Sunday I created a quickie little card for you today and a layout from Easter 2008 (the year I am currently trying to tackle). Both projects use the beautiful bunny image from Unity's January KOM. The layout also uses part of the journaling stamp from the March KOM.

First my card before I pop it in the mail for my Gramma:
and my layout which was inspired by a layout in the March/April issue of CK by Kim Watson:

I do apologize for the pics of my layouts...I find it better to take the pics outside but it is still too damp & windy. I have to figure out how to get good layout pics inside...guess I should add that to my to do list!

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out all the other creativity flowing on this beautiful Friday. Just hop on over to the Unity blog to get the full list of participants. You will want to visit each blog to see who has the hidden blinkie for your chance to win some Unity goodness!

Take care and have a wonderful weekend,
Tracy

feeling a little frazzled

hey there ~

TGIF and I really mean it today. Not only is it FWF with Unity {always a great way to end a week} but it is the Friday of school vacation {YIPEE!!!} Don't get me wrong, I love my kiddos with all of my heart but this week has been a bit hectic, and well has left me a bit frazzled and certainly ready for them to go back to school on Monday. See, I am a person of routine and I get all out of sorts when that routine is broken - so having the kids home with me each day when they usually are not is well...a break in my normal routine. I ran out of entertainment ideas at the beginning of the week and all they want to do is play video games and watch tv and that drives me absolutely NUTS!!! So, today's card was absolutely fitting for the mood I am in.

I would love to hear from you so, please leave me a comment and then don't forget to head on over to the Unity blog to check out the list of Friends with Flair. You don't want to miss today's inspiration...and...someone has the hidden blinkie, find it to win yourself some Unity goodness.

Have a great day...off to occupy the restless kiddos {and one frazzled mom!},

Tons of Love on FWF!

hey there!

Since Sunday is Valentine's Day, I figured I would go with the lovey dovey theme today...that and because I have been up to my eyeballs in Valentine's cards these past few days. Earlier in the week, I dared to suggest to my 2 little loves that we run to Walmart to pick out Valentine's for their classmates...you would have thought I asked them to run naked through the snow (although JT might have) their eyes bugged out of their heads so far! I got the "but moooooom, you aren't going to make them?" Ok, so out came the stamps and all the scraps of paper and 52 Valentines later...I am pretty proud of what my kiddos get to send to school today (although JT is home sick on the couch...poor guy).

I used a whole bucket of scraps up with these little 4x4 beauties! They were super simple and came together quickly. The longest part was the coloring but I was able to catch up on all my DVR shows while doing it and the kids loved how they came out. I didn't grab a pick of the inside but the blue cards say "UR2 Sweet", the grey "You're just my TYPE", and the purple "You're the Cherry on Top".

I also had a little fun playing along with the Card Patterns Sketch #50. I switched the circles up with a square center and added the ribbon knots and buttons...I love making a sketch my own. I am sending this sweet little card to my gramma.

I want to get this up so I will post the materials a little later. Be sure to head on over to the Unity Blog to see who else is participating in FWF. Don't forget to visit everyone to see who has the hidden blinkie today for your chance to win some fabulous Unity goodness.

Have a great weekend & Happy Valentine's Day ~

Tracy

P.S. Join me on Monday for a CTMH blog hop featuring the You Rock stamp set.

ending the week with flair!

Hey there!

It is Friday and that means a celebration Unity style with FWF, it also means it is my last day of Growing in Unity, showcasing Unity all week long {sigh}. I have had so much fun this past week and I want to thank each and everyone of you who took the time to stop by and leave so many sweet comments on my blog...I love reading them and it just makes me want to spend more time in my craft room creating (although my poor house has been sadly neglected this week!). As a big thank you...I will be pulling one lucky winner tomorrow from all the posts left this week...you will get a Unity single of your choice just for playing along. I will announce the winner on Superbowl Sunday...so check back to see if it is you.

I have one more card for you today using a couple Unity stamps and a sketch from another great blog I discovered the other day (seems like I haven't had anything else to do this week but play and troll the internet for great sketch sites!). I used sketch 49 over at Card Patterns - check them out, this is another site to add to your favorites!

{Wishes}

Don't forget to go to Angela's blog to check out the list of everyone participating in FWF today! Be sure to visit each blog and look for the blinkie for your chance to win some Unity goodness. Oh, and leave me some love too for your chance to win a Unity single of your choice.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

Tracy

{let's hang out}...with Unity all week long!

Happy Thursday and a great big welcome back to day 4 of Growing in Unity! I can't believe my week to showcase Unity's wonderful stamps is almost over {sigh}. I have had such a blast getting inky, working on my creative side and finding new sketches to inspire me. Plus my card stash has been looking a little empty lately so now I have a good stash to grab from when I need one. I have one more day and I had mentioned I was working on a layout (I started off as a scrapbooker afterall) but that is just not going to be finished as my creative muse has decided to take off on a card making tangent...so I have another card tomorrow...and hopefully some scrappy goodness to post next week. Today I have a fun little card for you that I just love because it is so bright and cheery. I used Mercy's Tuesday Sketch (#59) and think that it showcases this great image perfectly.

{let's hang out}
Don't forget that we celebrate Friday's Unity style around here with Friends with Flair. So tomorrow you will have 2 chances to win some Unity goodness. Remember to leave a comment on each of my posts this week for a chance to win a single of your choice (I will pick the winner this weekend) and don't forget to check out Angela's blog tomorrow for the list of those participating in FWF...one crafty lady will be hosting the special blinkie for you chance to win some Unity goodness!

Have a super great day!
